<hi style=afpcap>The C-118A Liftmaster was ordered by the Air Force primarily for its Military Air Transport Service to conduct non stop trans-Atlantic journeys. The aircraft was predominantly a passenger carrier and served MATS Atlantic and Pacific Divisions throughout the '50s and early '60s until the C-135 series entered service. Although they were displaced from their primary duty, they found numerous secondary roles including VIP, Medical Evacuation, Reconnaissance, and even Airborne Command Post. Strangely the C-118 did not serve with the Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve.</hi>
